Cobalt Maximizes Content Processing in Mobile Trucks
Mobile trucks are being tasked to handle more aspects of content processing than previously, including Frame Sync/Audio Processing, Distribution of various digital media, as well as MPEG Encoding and Transmission. Cobalt offers solutions to these challenges specifically designed for the mobile environment – lightweight, high-density, low power consumption/heat generation solutions.
Flexible, High-Quality Frame Sync Solutions
Numerous Cobalt card-based, high-density Frame Sync products provide frame sync with audio embed/de-embed that support all standard broadcast formats including 3G SMPTE425 at both North American and PAL frame rates. Disparate video and audio formats such as baseband analog, AES and MADI audio and SDI digital formats can all be ingested and delivered/distributed to a single standard (typically with payload over a single coax cable of fiber link). Maximizing the density of the openGear® rack-mount form, many Cobalt cards can be packaged as 20 cards per 2RU frame. Special high-density rear module connector break-out panels maximize signal throughput using miniaturized HD-BNC or DIN1.0/2.3 connectorization.

Comprehensive Signal Distribution With Extras Perfect for the Mobile Environment
Again utilizing low-power, high-density design, Cobalt provides a comprehensive array of Distribution Amplifiers (DAs) for distribution of SDI, AES, MADI content, and analog video for baseband and black burst/tri-level frame sync. Many are available in both 1x9 and 2x8 dual packaging with up to 20 cards per 2RU frame. Integrated products such as our 9501 Down-Converting Distribution Amplifier (DCDA) provide downconversion and distribution for legacy gear and SD auxiliary feeds all on one card (again, with up to twenty 9501 cards per frame). This integration can provide a 50% improvement in capacity over other forms. Available as embedder/de-embedders, our MADI audio cards allow up to 64 discrete audio pairs to be carried over a single 1694A coax run. These cards also provide embedding/de-embedding from SDI chains to and from MADI audio.

Encompassing Transmission into the Mobile Environment
More and more, encoding and transmission is becoming a larger part of the truck environment. Cobalt provides both card-based and standalone MPEG encoding allowing MPEG transmission over IP and ASI. When used in conjunction with our single-card frame sync/Dolby® encoding cards (such as our Fusion3G® 9901 with option +ENCDA), the delivered MPEG stream is directly compatible as a feed to facility routers and ATSC A/53 encoders for broadcast.
