About Us

Founded in 1997, Cobalt Digital is an award-winning designer and manufacturer of conversion gear for the broadcast industry. From the outset, the engineering goals have been to develop rugged, price competitive products with feature sets not available from the competition.

Cobalt's growing product line includes solutions such as 3G/HD/SD up/down/cross format conversion, fiber, frame sync, color correction, and control panel operation. A full suite of audio solutions include stereo upmixers, audio mixers, loudness metering, automatic loudness processing using Linear Acoustic technology, audio embedders/de-embedders and Dolby® encoders/decoders.

Cobalt is a founding member of the openGear™ platform of manufacturers. openGear™ takes application flexibility to new levels with its ability to handle 3G/HD/SD video processing cards, plus audio processing cards, from multiple manufacturers in the same frame.

Meet the new Fusion3G™ 9900 Series

At NAB 2010, Cobalt introduced the Fusion3G™ 9900 series for openGear™, offering full 3G/HD/SD support of both fiber and coax SDI inputs/outputs. The Fusion3G™ series provides a comprehensive array of available processing features--all in one module--including up/down/cross conversion, frame sync, wings insertion, keying, advanced audio processing, full analog I/O, and GPIO control.

Rugged product reliability -- backed by a five year warranty

Cobalt's emphasis on rugged product reliability is backed by a 5 year warranty. NASA installed Cobalt converters on the space shuttle launch tower after testing them to military standards for emissions, vibration and shock. Products are also frequently used in helicopter news systems, another harsh environment for electronic equipment.

Specifically engineered solutions to meet today's digital challenges

By working closely with customers, Cobalt continues to develop unique solutions to meet the challenging problems of today’s digital environment. End-users include NEP, FOX Speed Channel, HBO Studios, ESPN, Game Creek, Broadcast Sports Technology, Cross Creek, Sure Shot Transmissions, and many other sports production companies. Cobalt products can be found in use at events such as NASCAR, the Super Bowl, the World Series, WWE, the Ryder Cup, and live PGA tournaments.

Cobalt gear can be found in all of the major U.S. broadcast networks, multiple TV stations, cable operators, production and post-production companies, mobile/ENG vehicles, theme parks and a large number of corporate and industrial facilities, as well as many houses of worship such as Saddleback.

Cobalt markets its products through a growing network of worldwide dealers, systems integrators and other partners. These partnerships continue to expand around the globe as the range of product increases, and as applications for Cobalt equipment continue to grow.
