Cobalt Talks openGear and NAB with KitPlus TV

Don’t miss our very own SVP of Worldwide Sales and Marketing, Suzana Brady’s interview with KitPlus TV, where you can watch Suzana discuss Cobalt’s involvement with openGear, and what the company’s NAB 2021 participation would have looked like had the show gone ahead.

Many people are unaware that Cobalt Digital was a founder of openGear, the industry standard platform of choice for modular signal processing, in partnership with Ross Video. This technical experience and expertise are reflected in many of the openGear-based products that Cobalt has launched over the years, for live production and master control, supporting multiple formats from 3D to 4K and HDR as well as IP and more. The company supports many markets including broadcast, mobile production, sports venues, government, medical, corporate, education, the list goes on.

It’s sad that the Cobalt team couldn’t have met with colleagues and friends in Vegas this year, but we totally accept that the show could not go ahead due to the Pandemic, and fully support NAB’s decision to cancel at this difficult time. Had we been at the show we would have showcased the RIST (Reliable Internet Stream Transport) Main Profile Security Option (product code +RIST/ENCRP), which has just been honored with a Best New IT Networking/Infrastructure and Security Technology Award in the 2021 NAB Show Product of the Year Awards. This solution adds built-in encryption and authentication to the Cobalt compression line, which includes both encoders and decoders. It allows broadcasters to protect their content without having to add separate security devices, as it is a built-in feature for the encoders/decoders.

We would have also shone a spotlight on our new INDIGO ST 2110 series, an openGear-based SMPTE ST 2110 solution with 25G interfaces and 4K support, which has also won a 2021 NAB Show Product of the Year Award, in the Best New Acquisition/Hardware Infrastructure Technology category. Indigo 2110-DC-01, which last month made its world-wide debut, can operate either coupled with the Company’s award-winning 9904-UDX-4K card for additional native processing functions, including up/down/cross conversion, audio processing, 3D-LUTs, and SL-HDR support and soon will also be available as a standalone bidirectional gateway.

And finally, we would have highlighted our new 9905-MPx multi-channel processor which we are delighted to announce has also been presented with a Best New Acquisition/Hardware Infrastructure Technology 2021 NAB Show Product of the Year Award. The 9905-MPx can handle up to four independent 3G signals in a dense cost-effective package with optional 2110 support using 10G interfaces. This multi-path design offers four channels per card with flexible AES and MADI embed/de-embed for each path. When used with Cobalt’s HPF-9000 20-slot chassis, it provides up to 24 channels (6 cards) of processing in a single frame, representing a new level of openGear packaging density and resulting in unprecedented multi-input support and flexibility.

We really hope to see you in December at IBC 2021, but in the meantime follow the link for the full KitPlus TV interview with Suzana.
