Electronic Test Technician
Department: Manufacturing
Location: Champaign, Illinois
Commitment: Full-Time
Cobalt Digital Inc. develop and manufacture signal processing equipment for the broadcast industry. The company is based in Champaign and was founded in 1997. Cobalt Digital has won many awards for product innovation including a 2018 EMMY. The company is looking to expand its test department and are seeking a full-time electronic test technician. In this role you will test and process Cobalt Digital products prior to shipment to customers. This position reports to the Director of Manufacturing. Cobalt Digital offers group health insurance, a 401(k) with matching contributions, and a generous company holiday schedule.
A typical day in Cobalt’s test department will include processing untested products as they arrive from our factories. The work is in a fast-paced environment and shifting priorities can be expected depending on customer, engineering, and sales requirements.
The successful candidate will ideally have the following skills:
- Experience reading and interpreting test procedures, schematics and engineering drawings
- Familiarity with measurement tools such as oscilloscopes, multi-meters, and test signal generator monitors and analyzers
- Have an understanding of electronic circuit theory and design
- Ability to troubleshoot printed circuit board assemblies to the component level
- Soldering skills and ability to do precision work
- Strong attention to detail
- Communicate and describe unexpected issues to supervisors and/or engineering as they arise
- Additional training would be given as required
- Have a positive and energetic attitude and enjoy a challenging and rewarding environment

Sales Engineer
Department: Engineering
Location: Flexible
Travel Requirements: the position will require a significant amount of travel, both domestic and international, as the Sales Engineer will need to support the Sales Directors in their respective regions. The Sales Engineer will also need to spend a significant amount of time at the Cobalt Headquarters in Champaign, Illinois.
Commitment: Full-Time
Role and Responsibilities:
The Sales Engineer will assist the Sales Team and communicate complex technical solutions to Cobalt customers. The candidate must have extensive knowledge of the video and audio signal processing industry and the underlying technologies.
The Sales Engineer will team with the Sales Managers to help provide technical assistance to the sales process by recommending product or services based on the customer’s needs. Interaction with the engineering group will be necessary to communicate customer requirements and/or issues.
- Identify current and future sales requirements by establishing personal rapport with potential and actual customers in collaboration with the sales team.
- Provide product technical information by answering questions and requests.
- Develop sales team and customers by providing technical material and training.
- Help with technical proposals: workflow diagrams and product recommendation.
- Prepare sales engineering reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information on sales, engineering, competitive landscape and application trends.
- Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops and reviewing professional publications.
- Contribute to sales engineering effectiveness by identifying short-term and long-range issues that must be addressed, courses of action and solutions’ implementation.
- Assist main industry events such as trade shows: equipment planning, configuration, installation/pack up.
- Support customers’ equipment evaluations/demos.
- Communicate between sales/customer feedback and engineering.
Qualifications and Education Requirements:
Problem Solving, Product Knowledge, Selling to Customer Needs, Presentation Skills, Technical Understanding, Verbal Communication, Requirements Analysis, Innovation, Ability to Travel, Experience in the Broadcast Industry, Organizational Skills. 4 Year degree in related technical field or advanced degree in related field. Understanding of networking, Involvement in AIMS, VSF, or SMPTE Implementation of SMPTE 2022, 2110, NMOS, or related IP systems.

Electronic Component Buyer
Department: Manufacturing

This position reports to the Vice President of Manufacturing. Cobalt Digital offers group health insurance, a 401(k) with matching contributions, and a generous company holiday schedule. The work is in a fast-paced environment and shifting priorities can be expected depending on customer, engineering, and sales requirements.
Role and Responsibilities:
- Work closely with Vice President of Manufacturing with operations and material procurement.
- Communicate with vendors to achieve supply parts and components in a timely manner.
- Assist with operations in the Test, Shipping / Receiving, and Inventory departments.
- Communicate with Sales team maintaining deadlines against sales forecast and purchase orders.
- Maintain regular inventory checks.
- Assist in managing and communication with contract manufacturing sites.
- Assist in the day-to-day operations of manufacturing and procurement.
Skills you will need to be successful:
- Understanding of inventory concepts and best practices.
- Strong and effective communication skills.
- Solid work ethic and the ability to work unsupervised, with strong attention to detail.
- A good knowledge of computer skills including all aspects of Microsoft Office.
- Ability and willingness to be trained in all aspects of department activities.
- Successful candidate should preferably have previous experience in Purchasing/Inventory Management.
- Working with a small team requiring hands on activity when necessary.
- Have fun in a challenging and rewarding environment.
